I'm glad to hear about the story slams in Seattle, Paul. My experience is that the Seattle storytelling community is very supportive. I appreciate your taking the time to comment here.

Thanks, Dave! Yes, there will be more in the next weeks. I am finding an audio editor to help me.

I so appreciate your words of praise! They encourage me to keep going.

Quite a coincidence that I just started reading this book and you just started this podcast. I see there hasn't been a new one since September. I hope you will continue them. I will use them to remind me of the info I've covered.

I can already tell that your book will be one that I read multiple times. Not many books are on that list! Thanks, Doug!

As a beginning storyteller I am pretty nervous about being judged and feeling like a loser. But I have been pleasantly surprised by the contests I've been to. Even when someone else clearly has the best story of the night I feel like I'm in the company of fellow artists and not some kind of literary reality show. The storytellers I've met so far in Seattle have all been kind and supportive no matter what their experience level. While poetry slams seem more aggressive and limiting in their style I find storyslam audiences and judges to be thoughtful, kind and open-minded.

Thanks for this site, Doug. I've already subscribed to the podcast and am looking forward to more episodes.

GREAT IDEA! and most delightful to listen to. I did find the intro a little difficult as some words dropped in tone and were so soft as to be somewhat difficult to hear...and I did not want to miss even one word!m Looking forward to more from your podcast and book (which I plan to buy).

[...] One of the first books on storytelling that I came across was authored by Doug Lipman. He is truly one of the pioneers in the field of modern day storytelling. Here’s a post where he talks about his thoughts, reservations and participation in a Boston Story Slam. It’s, well, a great story. He even included a video of his winning story.
